Shopping with Dignity

A Program of Trapp Foundation

Program Description

Trapp Foundation is a 501(c)(3) grassroots non-profit organization, founded in 2022, with a deep commitment to making a positive impact in our community. Our Shopping with Dignity program empowers individuals and families by offering the opportunity to choose essential items that support their journey to independence.  Our two primary focus areas provide a dignified shopping experience, offering essential household items for clients moving into stable, independent housing, and providing clothing, shoes, and accessories for those preparing to enter the workforce. By addressing these critical needs, we walk alongside individuals as they establish comfortable, functional homes and present themselves confidently as they begin their journey into the workforce.

Shopping with Dignity

Addressing the immediate needs of families experiencing homelessness, we’ve learned that many individuals and families, while managing to cover rent expenses, often lack the financial means to acquire basic household items. These items include pots, pans, dishes, bedding, and towels.

Dignity Threads

Provides individuals the freedom to choose clothing and shoes that are tailored to their professional needs as they step into the workforce. This program not only supports professional but also reinforces the value of respecting each person's individual journey, dignity of choice, and expression of self.

Welcome from the Founder

Shopping with Dignity (formerly Shopping for Independence) helps families transitioning to stable housing by addressing a key gap: the lack of essential household items. Through personalized shopping trips, families choose the items they need to restore dignity and stability in their homes. Dignity Threads, an initiative of Shopping with Dignity, provides a similar experience for individuals shopping for clothing, shoes, and accessories to support their entry into the workforce.

This work would not be possible without our invaluable Community Referral Partners, who assist in connecting us with their clients at critical points in their journey. Together, we ensure that each individual and family we serve can create a home environment that is stable, functional, and comfortable.

How We Do This

To bridge this gap and connect with the families in need, we collaborate closely with Community Referral Partners from local, faith-based, non-profit organizations and accept referrals for the one-on-one shopping trip. Clients referred have been in long term programs and are graduating to independent, self-sufficient living situations.

This collaborative effort between our Community Referral Partners and Trapp Foundation ensures that individuals and families in need can equip their new homes with dignity, comfort, and functionality. Additionally, through our programs, those entering the workforce have the opportunity to select appropriate clothing, shoes, and accessories, empowering them to succeed in their professional journey.
